Grow your own packaging

Jan Velthuizen and Ronald Wall mould calabashes into bottle-like shapes while they grow. Perfect for cosmetic products. "We have simply reinvented an ancient method of packaging" says Jan. "Our goal was to develop packaging from renewable materials."

Soiled

This package for tulip bulbs is made from cattle dung. The Netherlands is struggling with a vast manure surplus. Although a small country, we have an enormous livestock industry and a correspondingly huge dung mountain. The interesting thing about this packaging is that it eats into the surplus and acts as a fertilizer at the same time. Andreas Muller is the designer.
